Transforming supply chains to foster Decent Work
Supply chains drive economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction; serving as vital engines for the creation of millions of jobs, especially benefiting younger generations. Trade for Decent Work assists governments in effectively implementing labour standards within supply chains.
Challenge
Critical shortcomings in supply chain practices
Failures across all levels of global supply chains have led to deficiencies in decent work, particularly in ensuring basic labour rights and a healthy working environment. Widespread issues like informal employment & non-standard work arrangements also often lead to the denial of labour rights including the right to freedom of association and collective bargaining. In lower tiers of the supply chain, child labour and forced labour are still prevalent.
Furthermore, in international trade supply chains that cross borders, countries may encounter difficulties in performing due diligence to monitor and enforce socially responsible legal frameworks and practices.
Role
Transforming nations through International Labour Standards
Trade for Decent Work is dedicated to bridging governance gaps in global supply chains and maximizing their development potential through a normative approach. Currently supporting the implementation of International Labour Standards, the project strives to create quality employment opportunities that uphold the rights and dignity of individuals.
Through strategic collaboration with governments, employers, and trade unions, the project is committed to fostering environments where decent work is not just a goal but a reality.
